The Museum hosts a rich and varied ethnographic collection of exotic items from all over the world, collected by local people who were inspired by Hugh Falconer to bring home and exhibit objects of beauty and wonder.
Few people had the means to travel and see the sights of foreign lands and cultures for themselves and so the Museum gave a fascinating insight into the unknown.
Today, the Museum is restricted to collecting items from the local area only but we still have some of the original collection including interesting and ususual items from Africa, Canada and New Zealand.
Most of the World Heritage Collection is housed in the Museum Store. If you would like to come and explore, please contact us to arrange an appointment.
